Tuning

Initial tuning report of the machine.

The loop performance 26 minutes later.

To have optimum performance of the heat treat equipment requires a good PID control and a control system that is capable of controlling the heat in all the temperature ranges. Bogh Industries has been able to develop strategies that have proven extremely accurate. We start by a review of the airflow and existing data from the equipment. Equipment inspections are also performed to ensure the oven/furnace is in a condition that tuning will be effective. After this is completed we recommend strategies to improve the controls.

Things that might affect performance:

  • Type of TC and location.
  • Airflow and stratification in the supply ducts
  • Type and resolution of control motors
  • Turndown and response on heaters/burners
  • Type of control valves
  • Load configuration
  • General oven/furnace condition.
Tuning of most PID’s are done with modern software and a full report is submitted after the tuning is completed

Furnaces with +/-5F in the zone is our standard and +/-2F has been archived in several large direct and indirect fired new and older systems.

The graph shows an 18 point survey of a solution heat treat furnace. Uniformity +2°F to -3°F at 850°F

This graph shows a temperature and control upset during a furnace door opening. This is used to check the PID performance.

Various tuning methods may use programs such as ExperTune® to display information gathered from the machine. While ExperTune is used in some of these procedures, it is not the only program/process Bogh Industries utilizes.
